Description
Harissa is a chilli-based seasoning or condiment popular in north-west African countries like Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco.
Spice Fusion’s dry version of Harissa is a versatile blend which can be sprinkled over, or added to virtually any savoury dish to provide a punch of heat and extra flavour.
Try some of these suggestions for its use:
- In Burgers: mix Harissa into the burger meat itself or blend it into tomato sauce or mayonnaise for a zingy condiment.
- With Roasted Vegetables: Harissa’s heat is especially good with sweet vegetables like zucchinis, carrots and fennel. Try sprinkling it over chopped vegetables then drizzle with olive oil before roasting.
- In Salad dressings: Add a spicy kick to your salads by whisking Harissa into a lemony dressing. It’s also delicious tossed with raw julienned carrots.
- As a Rub: Spice Fusion’s Harissa is an instant rub for cuts of meat like a crown roast of pork, a leg of lamb, whole chicken or chicken pieces.
- With eggs: More complex than Tabasco, Harissa is delicious with eggs.
- In Hommus: Mix it into store-bought hommus or make your own.
- In Yoghurt: Add to yogurt to make a hot or cold sauce for grilled meats like lamb chops.
- In Pasta Sauce: Southern Italy is not so far from North Africa, so using it in pasta dishes isn’t a huge stretch. Add it to a basic tomato sauce or just sprinkle over pasta for a flavour boost.
- Harissa Paste: 2 red capsicums (roasted and peeled), 1 small red onion, 3 cloves peeled garlic, 2 tbsp lemon juice, 2 tsp Spice Fusion Tunisian Harissa, 1 tsp tomato paste, ½ tsp salt. To make a paste, combine all ingredients in a small food processor and blend until smooth.
Ingredients: cumin, coriander, garlic, caraway seeds, mint, smoked paprika, crushed chillies.
