Turn a dish of ordinary meatballs into this gourmet dish of beef kofta in a thick and
aromatic tomato sauce. The secret is Spice Fusion’s Arabian Biz’har, a blend of 11 spices
which includes Middle Eastern dried limes or Loomi, both in the kofta and the sauce.
KOFTA
500g beef mince
2 cloves garlic, crushed
½ bunch coriander leaves, chopped
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 egg, lightly beaten
½ cup Panko breadcrumbs
½ tsp salt
½ tsp black pepper
TOMATO SAUCE
1 can diced tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
½ cup water
1 tbsp olive oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tbsp Spice Fusion Arabian Biz’har
Salt and cracked black pepper to taste
Mix together all of the ingredients for the Kofta then shape into about 8 large balls.
Process/blitz the tomatoes, tomato paste and water until smooth.
Heat oil in a large frying pan and sauté onion until golden brown; add garlic and Arabian Biz’har and cook
for 30 seconds, then add tomato sauce and season with salt and pepper.
Stir well, then gently add the Kofta, spooning the sauce over them so they are well coated.
Cover the pan with a lid, bring sauce to the boil, then simmer for 20 minutes, turning the Kofta at least once.
Remove the lid and stir gently then replace the lid leaving it ajar so the steam can escape and simmer on
very low heat for about 10 more minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve with rice or mashed potato and garnish with coriander leaves.
